Mini Sessions: What Are They, and What Do I Need to Know?
So what exactly is a mini session you ask? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and as a professional photographer in the bustling San Francisco Bay Area, I am more than happy to explain! I’ve included some shots from my recent trial mini session shoot with the lovely Taylor Stone (@TayTayboxing) and her handsome fiancé Dylan to give you an idea of what they look like!
Mini sessions are typically a themed shoot in which several short sessions are booked back to back at a single location which allows a photographer to have multiple sessions in one day. These sessions are usually themed around holidays, creative ideas, and fun locations and vary depending on what your photographer is looking to create!
Usually, the sessions are a much shorter amount of time and fewer images than you would receive for a typical shoot, and best part is, that they are a LOT cheaper that a usual session! These sessions are great for those who are interested in getting professional photos taken, but who aren’t sure if they want to make the commitment for a more expensive package, those who may be on a budget, or for those who love to get high-quality seasonal photos taken of them and their loved ones.
Mini Sessions are also a great tool for you as a potential customer too! If you are engaged or looking for an event photographer, Mini Sessions allow you to try working with the photographer to see if you are a good fit without the large investment! These photos are perfect for holiday cards, gifts for family, and are memories that will last a lifetime!
Mini Sessions are just that, mini! These sessions typically vary in length from fifteen minutes to as many as thirty minutes depending on the package offered by the photographer. Some photographers, like myself, offer a small selection of prints included in the package price, and some simply include the digital files. Because mini sessions are on the shorter side time-wise, this means that you will typically receive between 5-15 edited images, just depending on the length of the shoot and the cost of the session.
So what makes exactly makes a mini session so special? My favorite part of putting together mini sessions, is by far the props and decor! Depending on the theme, your photographer gets to be really creative and have fun with making their set beautiful and fun to interact with! Not all mini sessions include props or decor, though many do! Check with your photographer if you are not sure.
Mini sessions allow you to get those adorable Pinterest shots of your family, babies, or you and your partner without all the stress and hassle. You don’t have to lift a finger, all you have to do is show up looking pretty, and the photographer handles the rest!
So, now that that we are at the end of this blog post you may ask, where can I get some of these uber cute mini session photos done? Well, if you live in the Silicon Valley, not far away at all!
